The Northport Village dock is currently missing its middle section, to be repaired during the second part of an ongoing project planned in three phases. The dock, now closed, is expected to reopen for the season by Memorial Day.

Dock repairs are being completed in three phases over a three-year period, Mayor Donna Koch confirmed at the April 4 board of trustees meeting. Last year was phase one, which included the very end of the dock, closest to the gazebo. Phase two, which is currently underway, includes the middle of the dock. The area closest to land will be part of the final phase.

Brandt Marine, the construction company that completed phase one of the dock replacement project, is also handling phase two. The project includes the removal and replacement of worn piles and cross braces that make up the base of the dock, which haven’t been replaced since 1962, Koch said.

Trustee Dave Weber, the commissioner of docks and waterways, said the project should take six to eight weeks. “Given the rain and wind that we’ve had over the last couple of weeks, we’re going to keep our fingers crossed,” Weber added at last night’s meeting.

“The contractor that we have on the job is top-notch. I will vouch for him 100%; he does impressive work, and they’re out there in some pretty harsh conditions,” Weber said.

Although the dock won’t be open until late May, floating docks for dinghies will be provided on the south and north sides of the main dock by April 15, if the weather cooperates, the trustee explained.
