On the evening of Thursday, November 30, Northport Historical Society board, staff and volunteers gathered at the Thompson Building for its annual holiday party. Society Co-Presidents Debra Newton and Carolyn Hyatt-Basche thanked the staff and volunteers for their hard work and expressed their gratitude on behalf of the board of trustees, while welcoming society friends and family to the event.
Executive Director Caitlyn Shea followed, giving recognition to everyone for their unwavering commitment to the museum, which has motivated so many individuals to delve into the local history of Northport.
The evening’s festivities included food catered by Maroni’s, drinks, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the historic Thompson Building by owner, Joseph Schmitz.
During the event, Northport Historical Society Curator Terry Reid presented the Northport Icon Award to the Thompson Building. The award, created in 2022 for the Icons of Northport exhibit, recognizes the individuals and businesses who played a significant role in shaping the Village of Northport.
The Thompson Building is the society’s eighth recipient, joining: Tim Hess/Tim's Shipwreck Diner; the Weber family/Seymour's Boatyard; the Great Cow Harbor 10K Race; the Northport Yacht Club; Vince Terranova/Jones Drug Store; the John W. Engeman Theater; and Joanne Moran, co-founder of Great Cow Harbor Day.
