Northport Village proposed budget calls for 1.99% tax rate increase, public hearing tonight

A public hearing on the 2025-26 Northport Village budget will take place tonight at 6pm in Village Hall. The proposed budget calls for a property tax rate increase of 1.99% and, if approved, would result in a $60.40 tax bill increase for the average home assessed at $4,000.

The $26,216,634 proposed budget is made up of the following categories:

Employee benefits: $5,562,737; 21% of budget
Public safety, police: $4,683,104; 18% of budget
Home and community service, sewer: $4,466,244; 17% of budget
General government support: $2,521,577; 10% of budget
Transportation (highway, snow removal): $2,619,545; 10% of budget
Public safety, fire: $2,461,551; 9% of budget
Culture and community service (parks, docks, community grants): $1,599,112; 6% of budget
Home and community service, refuse: $957,000; 4% of budget
Interfund transfer: $797,375; 3% of budget
Home and community service (drainage, shade trees, boards): $177,200; 1% of budget
Debt service: $137,308; 1% of budget
