Northport Village election 2026: Candidates begin announcing bids for mayor and trustee

Candidates for mayor and trustee have begun to step up for the Northport Village election in March 2026.
The Northport Village election is set for March 2026, with three open seats on the ballot: one for mayor and two for trustee, each carrying a four-year term. The seats currently held by Mayor Donna Koch, Deputy Mayor Meghan Dolan and Trustee Joseph Sabia will all be decided in the race.
Although the election is months away, several candidates have already announced their intentions. Other potential candidates also have time to enter the race; petitions to run are due in early February.
Mayor Donna Koch confirmed her re-election bid during the Cow Harbor Day parade, where she wore a shirt that read “Reelect Donna Koch, Northport Village Mayor.” Koch has served since March 2022, when she won her first mayoral election with 1,015 votes over Dave Weber Jr.’s 799.
Trustee Weber has also entered the mayoral race, marking his second attempt at the seat. Weber has been a trustee since 2020 and, after losing the mayoral election to Koch last election, was re-elected as trustee in 2024, defeating opponent Ernie Pucillo by 480 votes. Should Weber win in 2026, he will appoint a Northport resident to fill his trustee seat. If he loses the mayoral race, he will continue serving his current trustee term through 2028.
Trustee Joseph Sabia announced this week that he too will seek the mayor’s office. Sabia, who has served as trustee since 2022, narrowly won his seat by 10 votes over Jim Izzo. With his term ending in March, Sabia has opted to run for mayor rather than seek another term as trustee. If unsuccessful, his time on the board will conclude, for now.
A new candidate has also entered the trustee race. Northport resident Monica Zenyuh announced her candidacy over Cow Harbor Weekend, sharing in a Facebook post that she hopes to contribute fresh ideas while helping preserve the Village’s history and advancing environmental initiatives.
Deputy Mayor Meghan Dolan, whose trustee term also expires in March, has not yet shared if she is running for reelection.
The Journal will continue to follow developments in the months ahead as more candidates step forward and campaigns take shape leading up to the March 2026 election.
