Northport Community Band returns live to the bandstand, with rain or shine plans

The Robert W. Krueger Bandstand in Northport Village Park will once again ring with the sounds of music, friends and neighbors in a summertime tradition dating back to 1959, as the Northport Community Band returns to live performances beginning tonight, July 1 at 8:30pm.
In their first live performances at the park since quarantine, members of the band will play in smaller groups that don’t always get the spotlight, culminating with the full band in the schedule’s final weeks:
July 1: Mr. Jack Daniel’s Original Silver Cornet Band featuring the French Horn Ensemble
July 8: The NCB Low Brass Collective plus the Jazz Orchestra Quintet
July 15: The Northport Community Jazz Orchestra Big Band
July 22: Return of the full Northport Community Band, with guest conductor Tom Gellert and other surprises
July 29: Season finale with the full band, as well as Armed Forces Salute with American Legion Post #694 and the 1812 Overture with cannons.
So bring your folding chairs, beach blankets and a picnic dinner, and celebrate the Northport Community Band’s 63rd musical summer! And don’t forget to “bring a can to the concert” – Long Island Cares will once again be accepting non-perishable food donations every week, and each item is worth a raffle ticket for valuable prizes, including guest conducting “The Stars and Stripes Forever” at the band’s final concert.
Rain or shine: This year, there is a contingency rain site for concerts; performances will be moved to Northport High School if the weather is not cooperating. Announcements will be made beginning at 3pm on the band’s website and Facebook page. Concertgoers can also sign up for instant updates by sending an email to e82cbb@mail.remind.com or texting @e82cbb to 81010.
For those unable to attend, every concert is live-streamed and archived at facebook.com/NCB1959, where all of last year’s virtual concerts can still be found.
