Two major events hosted by the Northport Arts Coalition (NAC) are coming soon, bringing artists, musicians and performers to Northport Village for the entire community (and beyond) to enjoy.

Art in the Park will take place this Sunday, August 14, from 10am-5pm in Northport Village Park. NAC Executive Director Amy Connor told the Journal that she’s excited to be presenting this event again after a two-year pandemic hiatus, and the weather is looking perfect this weekend.

There will be artists and fine craftspeople displaying and selling their works at this year’s event, and NAC has added booths for authors to display and sell their books, and meet readers. There will also be musical and dance performances, a poetry reading and poetry open mic, Amy said.

“One of the things I'm really excited about is part of our community building – an art collaboration with Not in Our Town (NIOT) Northport,” she explained. “We'll be creating a 4’ x 8’ mosaic symbolizing our Northport community, and promoting the message that each of us is a part that makes up the beautiful whole.”

NAC has worked with NIOT before, doing workshops for children, but this is an opportunity to reach even more children in the community. Tiffany Asadourian, an artist with extensive mosaic experience, will be leading the project; visitors will be invited to choose a piece of tile, personalize the back of it, and then place it in the mosaic. Amy said she hopes the finished project will find a permanent home someplace in the Village for all to enjoy.

The NAC ArtWalk will take place later this year, on Sunday, October 9 from 1-5pm in Northport Village. While organizers only just began planning for the event, it’s already shaping up to be just as popular as last year, Amy said. This year, the walk is on the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend, “so people can make it part of their three-day-weekend plans,” she said. The Arts Coalition is looking for artists and musicians to apply for the event. Artists, fine craftspeople and authors will have a chance to display and sell their works, from participating Village businesses. Musicians will fill the streets and play in shops with enough space and the right acoustics. To apply as an artist, author or musician, fill out an application at www.NorthportArts.org.

NAC is looking for volunteers for both events. The timing is flexible and can be for part of the day or the entire event. For this Sunday’s Art in the Park, NAC is asking volunteers to help set up in the morning, work with performers during the day, and lend a hand at the children’s art station.
