At the February 21 Northport Village board meeting, the Northport Arts Coalition (NAC) requested to hold Friday night concerts in the Village Park gazebo from June 30 through September 1, from 6-10pm. Mayor Donna Koch was unwilling to approve the request, indicating that it was unfair to occupy the gazebo every Friday night when there may be a wedding ceremony or other requests.

The concerts, called “Happenings on Main Street,” have been held in the park on Fridays for over a decade, but were originally located at the patio area near the park entry. When the concerts were moved to the gazebo to allow for social distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic, they drew in more people, NAC Executive Director Amy Connor explained to the board, which is why they’d like to continue using the larger space going forward. The board plans to continue their discussion of the request at the March 7 meeting.
