Longtime resident Rich Boziwick confirms plans to join race for Northport Village trustee

A new contender for Northport Village trustee has confirmed his intentions to run, setting up at least one opponent to incumbents Dave Weber and Ernest Pucillo in the race for two available four-year terms on the board.
Longtime Village resident Rich Boziwick confirmed with the Journal yesterday his anticipated candidacy for trustee. Boziwick will run against Weber and Pucillo in March.
“I am running for Village trustee in order to be a part of unifying the board of trustees and the Village of Northport, as a whole,” Boziwick told the Journal.
With 30-plus years of local experience in private and public endeavors, Boziwick has had the opportunity to work with many local groups. A member of the Village Planning Board for over 25 years, Boziwick is currently chair of the board. He has been associated both as a runner and volunteer with the Great Cow Harbor 10K Run since the mid-1980s and is presently the race director. He is also largely responsible for bringing the New Year’s Eve fireworks display to Northport Village every year.
Boziwick and his wife Janet have owned a home in Northport Village for over 40 years. The couple raised three children here; two of them are also Village homeowners. Boziwick is the owner and president of family business R. P. Luce & Company Inc., a technical corporation formed in the 1950s and headquartered in Northport since 1990. He holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Clarkson University.
As trustee, Boziwick said he would like to continue to work on developing the Village’s comprehensive plan (he is currently on the committee) while “addressing issues concerning the infrastructure improvements needed in the Village.”
“I look forward to working with the board of trustees in fulfilling their obligations in moving Northport forward,” Boziwick said.
Joining Boziwick on the March ballot, the Journal has confirmed, will be incumbent trustees Dave Weber, a trustee since 2020, and Ernest Pucillo, who first took his seat on the board in 2022, to fill a vacancy left by then-trustee Mercy Smith.
Petitions to run for trustee are due Tuesday, February 13 at 5pm. No petitions have been filed yet, Village officials told the Journal. Election day is Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
