Asharoken among four town beaches closed for swimming due to lifeguard shortage

The Town of Huntington announced today that four of the eight town beaches will be closed to swimming for the remainder of the season because of a lifeguard shortage. Asharoken Beach, Centerport Beach, Fleets Cove Beach and Gold Star Battalion Beach will have swim lines and lifeguard stands removed beginning today, August 26. There will be “No lifeguard on duty” and “No swimming allowed” signs posted.

The four town beaches that will remain open for swimming include Crab Meadow Beach, Hobart Beach, Centerport Beach and West Neck Beach.

To find out whether or not a beach is closed due to poor water quality, you can call the Suffolk County Bathing Beach Water Quality Hotline at (631) 852-5822.
