The Northport High School Academy of Finance hosted their third Volleyball Tournament for charity on March 10, raising over $10,000 for suicide prevention efforts. The event has grown from just three corporate sponsors in 2018 to now hosting twelve corporations throughout Long Island. “It’s exciting to see a homegrown tournament take off as this one has,” said Academy of Finance Coordinator Allison Schwabish.
“This is a great collaboration with the Academy of Finance Program and local corporate sponsors, where we have unified for the greater good of our community to be able to provide an amazing event right here in Northport,” Allison added.
The tournament was an effort to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; as a direct result of this event, over $10,000 will be donated to help save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. “We are also grateful to the PE Leaders, under the supervision of Aija Gipp and Sean Lynch, for their help in organizing a well-attended event,” said Allison.
The results of the tournament, as shared by the school district, are as follows:
First place team: Logan Chin, Sophia Yearwood, Alli Soule, Sophia Bica, Aidan Flinn and Justin Marques
Second place team: JJ Ahlstrand, Will Fitzpatrick, Aidan Foley, Joe Haubrich, Zack Zdrojeski and Nick Watts
