Thanksgiving luncheon returns for school district’s English Language Learners

Last week, the Northport-East Northport English Language Learners (ELL) Thanksgiving luncheon gave students from all seven district schools a chance to come together and celebrate their sense of togetherness. This was the first time the luncheon was held since before the Covid-19 pandemic.
The traditional Thanksgiving meal was served on Wednesday, November 16 by district staff; families of ELL students were invited to join their children at the celebration. Chairperson for World Language and ENL Jennifer Nesfield welcomed the students, expressed her gratitude for the sharing of their cultures with staff and peers, and noted her excitement to share a piece of American culture with them in return.
The event kicked off with a performance from kindergarten ELL students singing traditional Thanksgiving songs, followed by a presentation from middle school students about the things for which they’re most grateful. District staff then served students and their families classic Thanksgiving dishes, including turkey with gravy and mashed potatoes.
