Northport High School junior Patrick Sweeney has been awarded the Rensselaer Medal, a scholarship opportunity worth up to $120,000 for outstanding math and science students.

The merit scholarship, with a value of $30,000 per year, is guaranteed for four years for each medalist who is accepted and enrolls at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, located in New York State. Patrick will now have the option to attend the Insititute if he chooses.

The scholarship is awarded each year to one student in any high school who shows significant strength in mathematics and science. Rensselaer is the oldest technological institution in North America.
