Northport girls and boys soccer teams capture county titles

The Northport High School girls varsity soccer team beat Commack 6-2 to capture the Suffolk County Championship this past Tuesday, November 4.

It’s a big week for Northport soccer. Both the girls and boys varsity teams have captured their respective Section XI County Championships, marking a historic moment for the program: the first time both teams have won county titles in the same season.

The girls team claimed the Section XI Class AAA Championship under Head Coach Aija Gipp, along with Assistant Coach Kevin McGinn, JV Head Coach Lili Buscareno and Assistant Coach Julia DePalma.

The boys team earned the Section XI Class AA Championship, their first county title since 1982. The team is led by Head Coach Don Strasser, with Assistant Coach Chris Goodwin, JV Head Coach Patrick Winter and Assistant Coach Nicholas Yandolino.

Both teams now advance to the Long Island Championship games on Saturday, November 8. The girls will take on Oceanside High School at 10am at Walt Whitman High School. The boys will face Garden City at 11:30am at Islip High School. Tickets to the events can be purchased here (kids 12 and under attend for free). The games are also available to livestream, for a fee, here

With a 3-0 win over Deer Park, and for the first time in 43 years, Northport High School Boys Soccer captured the Suffolk County Championship.
