Northport-East Northport BOE reorganizes for upcoming school year; Licopoli voted in as school board president, Buscareno as VP

The Northport-East Northport School District’s Board of Education reorganization meeting took place this past Thursday, July 1 and included the swearing in of a new board president: Larry Licopoli. The board voted that evening to approve Licopoli as president and Victoria Buscareno as vice president.
The board reorganization meeting happens annually – the board president and VP could change each school year. During the reorganization meeting, a trustee can make a motion to nominate one specific person for president or vice president. If that motion receives a second motion, all trustees vote on it. Majority vote wins; this year’s votes were unanimous.
Larry Licopoli is a longtime educator and former superintendent of schools for over 22 years, and the outgoing interim superintendent for Arlington Central School District in LaGrangeville, New York. A Northport resident for two decades, he was first sworn in as a Northport-East Northport school board trustee in 2019.
Victoria Buscareno is a lifelong Northport resident and special education teacher at Syosset High School, who first joined the Board of Education as trustee in 2018.
Buscareno was reelected as trustee, alongside newly elected trustee Carol Taylor, on May 18, 2021. Each will serve three-year terms. Both Buscareno and Taylor were sworn in at the reorganization meeting.
Former board president David Badanes will return to his trustee position, in a term that ends in 2023. Former vice president Alison Noonan’s position as trustee expires in 2022.
Additionally, both Superintendent Robert Banzer and district clerk Beth Nystrom took their annual oaths of office, pledging to fulfil their duties in serving the district.
