At the December 12 meeting of the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District Board of Education, the board appointed Laurie Storch as the new principal of Ocean Avenue Elementary School, effective July 1. She will replace Sabina Larkin, who will retire at the end of the school year after serving Ocean as the school’s principal for 23 years.
Storch joins the elementary school with extensive administrative experience, currently serving as the assistant principal at East Northport Middle School for the last three years and previously serving as the principal of Dickinson Avenue Elementary School for three years. Prior to her time in the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District, Storch was an elementary school principal for 14 years.
“Laurie has established herself as a tremendous leader in this district, and I am pleased to finally welcome her back to the principalship in this district,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dave Moyer said. “She has great people skills, outstanding knowledge of instruction and embraces innovation. She inherits a tradition of excellence established by Ms. Larkin and the Ocean Avenue staff, and is a perfect fit to lead future-focused learning. I look forward to working with her in her new capacity,” Moyer continued.
Storch holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and a Master of Science degree in educational leadership from the University of Central Florida. She also holds a New York State professional certificate in school building leadership and a New York State professional certificate in school district leadership.
“I am truly honored to join the Ocean Avenue Elementary School family in my returning role as an elementary principal,” Storch said. “At the heart, I am committed to developing positive relationships with students, staff, parents and community members. Together, we will continue to foster academic excellence, working collectively with dedicated staff and community. I am excited to return to my passion of early childhood learning, where extraordinary, magical learning happens each day.”
