The Northport-East Northport school district hosted its annual St. Baldrick’s fundraiser event this past Friday, March 13, bringing students, staff and community members from across the district together in support of childhood cancer research. Through their collective efforts, participants have raised an impressive $43,000 to help fund lifesaving treatments and support for children battling cancer, with donations still rolling in. A dunk tank fundraiser at Northport High School also contributed more than $1,500 to the total.
Created in Northport, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation has raised hundreds of millions of dollars since its inception in 1999, and is now the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants.
Five teams participated in this year’s district event, with the ENMS Bald Tigers, led by team captain John Braun, recognized as the top fundraising team (the ENMS team had 51 members and raised over $25,000 in donations). East Northport Middle School student Joey Pizzo was the top individual fundraiser, raising $5,229.63.
During the event, 14 participants were honored as members of the League of Legendary Heroes, including 11 Squires for three years of service, one Knight for seven years and two Crusaders for 15 years of dedication supporting St. Baldrick’s.
