The Northport-East Northport school district’s board of education (BOE) held its annual organization meeting on July 11, where new board member Michael Cleary and reelected trustee Carol Taylor were sworn into office, beginning their three-year terms.

Cleary fills the seat vacated by former trustee Victoria Buscareno, who served six years on the board.

“I love this community, I love this school, I love everything about it,” Buscareno stated at her last meeting on June 20. Her takeaway, after her two terms, is the importance of community service and giving back: “Giving service to others is how we heal ourselves and how we give back to really important things in our life. None of this can really go on without community service,” Buscareno said.

During this week’s organizational meeting, Carol Taylor was unanimously elected as the new BOE president and Larry Licopoli, who previously served as president, was elected vice president for the 2024-25 school year by a vote of 4-2, with Trustees Tom Loughran and Donna McNaughton against it.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dave Moyer and District Clerk Beth Nystrom were also sworn in to their respective positions.
