On Monday, May 13, the Northport-East Northport PTA Council will be hosting a Meet the Candidate Night for the four candidates running for seats on the board of education. Two seats are up for election; the candidates are Victoria Bento, Michael Cleary, Paul Darrigo and incumbent Carol Taylor.

According to PTA guidelines, which can be found in full here, each candidate will be allowed three minutes to make an opening presentation stating their qualifications and reasons for running.

The moderator will then read questions to the candidates. Each candidate will have up to one minute to answer each question. No rebuttals are allowed during the question-and-answer period.

Once the last question is answered, each candidate will be allowed two minutes to make a closing statement.

Residents seeking to submit questions for the candidates can do so by emailing nenmtcquestions@gmail.com. The Meet the Candidate event will take place in the William J. Brosnan building at 7pm.

The district’s Meet the Candidates newsletter, which beginning this year will be available online only, can be found here. A QR code to the online newsletter will be included in the district’s annual budget mailing, expected to arrive at homes around May 11, district officials told the Journal.

The district also announced today that four additional budget presentations will take place over the next 10 days. They are scheduled for Thursday, May 2, at 6:30pm at Northport Middle School; Tuesday, May 7, at 6:30pm at East Northport Middle School; Wednesday, May 8, at 9:30am at East Northport Middle School; and Thursday, May 9, at 9:15am at Northport Middle School.

The annual budget vote and election of trustees will take place on Tuesday, May 21.
