The following letter was submitted to the Journal by the Northport-East Northport Board of Education in an effort to collect community feedback regarding the selection of a new Superintendent of Schools for 2024. It is published below in its entirety.

One of the most critical responsibilities of any school board is to thoughtfully recruit and select a Superintendent of Schools. In light of current Superintendent Robert Banzer’s forthcoming retirement effective December 31, 2023, finding the right person to lead our District going forward is a task we take very seriously.

To recruit a strong pool of applicants and assist the Board in selecting the best candidate for our District, the Board has retained the services of International Deliverables, LLC and its consultants, Drs. Teresa Lawrence and Thomas Ramming. In consultation with International, we agreed that our search process needs to be transparent while keeping in mind that confidentiality is essential to recruiting high-quality, successful candidates.

With that said, the Board is requesting feedback from our entire community via a survey. This survey includes questions regarding the most important characteristics and experience for our future district leader. The results will be used to shape our candidate leadership profile, which will then serve as the Board’s guidepost in the selection process for an experienced, proven and dynamic leader who will build on what makes our District strong and lead us to even greater heights.

The survey has been linked from the home page of the district website, northport.k12.ny.us, under “Announcements.” It may also be accessed by clicking here.

The survey will remain open through May 19, 2023. We urge community members and stakeholders to share their voices by responding to the survey. Thank you for your welcome input and interest in this process. Updates will continue to be provided on the district website at this link.

Respectfully,
The Northport-East Northport Board of Education
