September 11 remembrances in and around town

September 11, 2001 marked history’s deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. Almost three thousand people lost their lives, in three coordinated attacks. Those lost included 343 firefighters and 71 law enforcement officers. Below are two local remembrances scheduled around town.
Sunday, September 10, Heckscher Park
The public is invited to join Huntington Town Supervisor Ed Smyth, town officials, members of the Huntington Veterans Advisory Board, and veterans of all wars, for a 9/11 memorial service today, Sunday, September 10, at noon
Attendees will gather at the 9/11 memorial in Heckscher Park to honor and remember residents and first responders of the Town of Huntington who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Parking is available on Prime Avenue, near the Heckscher Museum; on Madison Street; and at town hall.
Monday, September 11, East Northport Fire Department
East Northport has continually vowed to “Never Forget” the tragic day or those who lost their lives on September 11. This year, members of the East Northport Fire Department, along with members from neighboring fire departments and the community, will come together to remember the attacks and pay tribute to the lives lost.
After 22 years, the ENFD encourages everyone to always remember and continue to pay tribute to the brave men and women who lost their lives in the World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. This year's ceremony will begin at 9:45am at
ENFD Headquarters located at 1 Ninth Avenue in East Northport. There will also be a candlelight vigil at 8pm at the same location.
