Tomorrow, members of the East Northport Fire Department (ENFD), along with members from neighboring fire departments and the local community, will come together to remember the September 11 attacks and pay tribute to the lives lost in 2001, as well as those who died due to long-term health effects on rescue and recovery workers.
September 11, 2001 marked history’s deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. Almost 3,000 people lost their lives, in three coordinated attacks. Those lost included 343 firefighters and 71 law enforcement officers.
A candlelight vigil ceremony will begin at 8pm at ENFD headquarters, located at 1 9th Avenue in East Northport. There will be no daytime service this year, but the memorial is always available to view.
The East Northport Fire Department has continually vowed to never forget the tragic day or those who lost their lives on September 11. After 23 years, the ENFD encourages everyone to remember and pay tribute to the brave men and women who lost their lives in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
