Highlighted below are Memorial Day parades, services and events that are scheduled to take place in Northport, East Northport and Huntington this weekend.
Northport Village
The Northport Memorial Day Parade and Services will be held on Monday, May 27 at 10am on Main Street in Northport Village. The line of march will be led by American Legion Post 694 and post commander Bill McKenna. It will begin at the Brosnan building on Laurel Avenue, with a procession that includes 12 wreath placements along Main Street and into Northport Village Park. East Northport Memorial Day Parade
In East Northport, an annual Memorial Day parade hosted by Knights of Columbus #6893 and Fr. Thomas A. Judge will begin on Monday, May 27 at 12pm. The parade route will begin at the IGA parking lot on Larkfield Road and Clay Pitts, and head to the John Walsh Memorial Park, adjacent to the Northport-East Northport Library.
Huntington Town Hall
The public is invited to join TOH officials in honoring fallen servicemen and women at Huntington Town Hall on Sunday, May 26, at 10am in Veterans Plaza in commemoration of Memorial Day.
Wreaths will be placed to honor fallen service members from World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, women veterans, and the Middle East: Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. The ceremony will include live patriotic music featuring the Huntington Men’s Chorus, Veteran Color Guard, a Rifle Salute, Taps played on bugle, and Amazing Grace played with Pipe & Drum. Gold Star Mother Constance Mangano will be in attendance, in memory of her son, New York National Guard Spec. Anthony L. Mangano.
Huntington YMCA Memorial Weekend Carnival
Newton Shows is partnering with the Huntington YMCA to present its annual Memorial Day Weekend Carnival at the Huntington YMCA from Friday to Monday, May 24-27.
“Proceeds from this holiday weekend event ensures that everyone — regardless of age, income level, or background — has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive with Huntington YMCA’s programs and support services,” said Nicole Dinolfo, Executive Director at Huntington YMCA.
The dates and times for the carnival are: Friday, May 24 from 6 to 10pm; Saturday, May 25 from 1 to 10pm; Sunday, May 26 from 1 to 10pm; and Monday, May 27 from 1 to 6pm.
On Friday, the weekend kicks off with a performance by Southern Fried Freaks from 6 to 9pm.
On Saturday, there will be a performance by Totally Taylor: A Taylor Swift Tribute Act at 2pm, followed by a 45-minute meet and greet. Later on Saturday, Eye Candy will perform from 6-9pm.
On Sunday, School of Rock will take the stage from 1 to 5pm, followed by the Charlie Kaye Band from 6 to 9pm. Additionally, children's magic/illusion shows will be held throughout the afternoon on both Saturday and Sunday. The weekend wraps up on Monday with karaoke from 2 to 4pm.
The carnival will be held at the Huntington YMCA, located at 60 Main Street in Huntington. Parking and admission are free. Advance tickets, including pay-one-price bracelets, can be purchased at newtonshows.com or ymcali.org/carnival.
