Memorial Day 2026: Honoring those who served

Northport Village Memorial Day Parade
The Northport Memorial Day parade and services will be held on Monday, May 25 at 10am on Main Street in Northport Village. The line of march will be led by American Legion Post 694 and post commander Bill McKenna. It will begin at the Brosnan building on Laurel Avenue, with a procession that includes 12 wreath placements along Main Street, and continue into Northport Village Park for a post-wreath laying ceremony. The procession includes wreath placements at 12 stops along Main Street and into Northport Village Park, listed below:
- Civil War monument in front of First Presbyterian Church
- Chief Warrant Officer John W. Engeman’s monument in the main lobby of the namesake John W. Engeman Theater. Engeman, brother of Patricia O’Neil, was killed in action during operation “Iraqi freedom” in the Middle East on May 14, 2006.
- World War I monument located in front of the Northport Historical Society, which lists names of ten soldiers.
- Servicemen monuments in front of the Northport Fire House, one for U.S. Marine Captain Joseph John Boccia, who was killed in action on October 23,1983, in Beirut, Lebanon, along with 240 other service members in a bombing, and the other for USCG Nathan Bruckenthal, the first United States Coast Guardsman to be killed in action in the Iraq war, in 2004.
- World War II monument located at Bayview and Main Street, with the names of 15 service members.
- The Anchor, also at at Bayview and Main Street, which symbolizes the “Anchor of Hope” as a MIA monument for those still missing or lost in action.
- Korean War monument on Main Street, on the south side of the parking lot, reads “Korea and Vietnam.”
- Iraq and Afghanistan monument on the south end of Main Street, next to the parking lot entrance.
- Service Women's monument on the left side of the parking lot, across from Iraq monument.
- The Vietnam War monument on the north side of Main Street, close to the waterfront, which has the names of four service members.
- World War II monument at the base of the flagpole in the Village Park.
- Harbor symbol, a wreath thrown into the harbor for those lost at sea in war time.
East Northport Memorial Day Parade
In East Northport, an annual Memorial Day parade hosted by Knights of Columbus #6893 and Fr. Thomas A. Judge will begin on Monday, May 25. The parade will begin at 12:15pm at the IGA parking lot on Larkfield Road and Clay Pitts, and head to the John J. Walsh Memorial Park, adjacent to the Northport-East Northport Library.
