The New York State Supreme Court ruled that Town of Huntington Councilman Eugene Cook will be on the November ballot in the race for supervisor, on the Stop LIPA line. Petitions for Councilman Cook’s candidacy were challenged by Councilman Edmund Smyth, who is running as the Republican candidate for supervisor, and claimed that some petition signatures for Cook were forgeries.

Councilman Cook announced his bid for TOH Supervisor, on the STOP LIPA line, in May. He has called it a grassroots effort that gained support because of his ongoing fight against the power plant company and its push for tax reassessments that significantly impact Northport and East Northport residents.

In an August 3 press release, Councilman Cook said, “With Judge John Leo’s decision, Huntington voters will have choices in this year’s race for supervisor. I am proud to be part of a grassroots effort shared by Huntington voters that includes balanced and diverse support from members of all political parties.”

There will be three names on the TOH ballot for supervisor this November: Republican Edmund Smyth, Democrat Rebecca Sanin, and Eugene Cook as part of the Stop LIPA party.
