At the “Salute To Service” game on Sunday, November 13, Northport Village marketing firm JK Consulting partnered with the New York Giants, Window World, and Paws of War to present a service dog to Long Island veteran Robert Engel. The Giants/Texans match-up was part of the NFL’s campaign to honor veterans and active-duty members of the military.

Mr. Engel deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. He has received numerous awards for his service, including an Army Commendation Medal, three Army Achievement Medals, and two campaign stars. For over a year, Engel has been waiting for a service dog and he was surprised with his new companion, named Bonnie, at the game.

“We're thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to put a healing leash in the hands of a United States Army Veteran,” said JK Consulting partners Jennifer Pinto and Kelley Henneberry. “It’s a privilege to recognize Robert’s incredible service and sacrifice with this special gift.”

Bonnie is being trained by Paws of War, a Smithtown-based nonprofit. Their mission is to rescue, train and place shelter dogs to serve and provide independence to veterans and first responders that suffer from traumatic effects sustained while serving their country and community, and to provide essential and supportive services to veteran heroes in need.
