“Interwoven: The Art of Creating Together” explores landscapes via friendship, collaboration
“Interwoven: The Art of Creating Together” opens at Kasher Gallery & Studios in Northport Village on Saturday, November 7.
Artists Sydell Glasser and Christine Donnelly explore friendship, collaboration and the landscapes that inspire their work in “Interwoven: The Art of Creating Together,” an exhibition opening at Kasher Gallery & Studios on Saturday, November 7.
In their first exhibition as a duo, Glasser and Donnelly celebrate the role of friendship in their creative lives. Tracing a journey from the work that first brought them together to the art, experiences and community they have since built alongside one another, Interwoven explores how creating together can shape and expand an artist’s practice.
The exhibition includes cyanotypes, monotypes, mixed media and textiles, offering visitors a view of each artist’s individual approach alongside the work they create collaboratively. Connections to the natural environment run through the collection, from landscapes inspired by Long Island and greater New York State to cyanotypes incorporating local land and marine botanicals.
Glasser is a painter, printmaker, mixed-media artist and art educator at Floral Park Memorial High School. Working from her East Northport studio, she draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape. Her works in Interwoven include a selection of landscapes created over the past three years.
Donnelly is a mixed-media cyanotype artist and art educator at Seaford Harbor Elementary School. Working from her Greenlawn studio, she explores traditional and experimental cyanotype processes, incorporating local land and marine botanicals into the works featured in this exhibition.
Both artists are Long Island Grants for the Arts recipients and active members of the Long Island arts community, regularly offering workshops and exhibiting their work at local venues. The exhibition opens November 7 at 5pm and remains on view through December 23. Kasher Gallery & Studios is located at 19 Scudder Avenue (second floor) in Northport Village.
