Last week, the Town of Huntington’s (TOH) first LGBTQ+ task force was established, with the swearing in of task force creator Phillip Griffin and Northport resident Joe Schramm.

Schramm is the director of the town’s Office of Film and Television, and cofounder of Northport Pridefest. Griffin is the legislative secretary for TOH Councilwoman Theresa Mari, who sponsored the resolution to “strengthen and build partnerships with the LGBTQ+ community through enhanced communication, education and awareness,” according to the town’s press release.

The LGBTQ+ Task Force will consist of up to ten members, serving as liaisons with the LGBTQ+ community and the town board. TOH Supervisor Ed Smyth and each council member will appoint a minimum of one and a maximum of two members to the task force. Each appointee will serve a term commensurate with the term of the appointing board member.

For information about the LGBTQ+ Task Force contact the Town of Huntington at lgbtqtaskforce@huntingtonny.gov. If you would like to be considered for membership on the task force, send your resume, bio and cover letter outlining your collaboration and supporting efforts with the LGBTQ+ community to the email address listed above.
