Handler Hope Foundation celebrates “A Night Out,” continues pledge to donate $75,000 to cancer research

In a resounding affirmation of community spirit and a commitment to driving change, the Handler Hope Foundation again honored hospital staff and helped advance very specific breast cancer research at its second ever, “A Night Out With 1 North.”
This unique gathering achieved a dual aim: recognizing the invaluable dedication of Huntington Hospital’s Cancer Center staff (1 North) and raising pivotal funds for the Lauren Handler Research Fund, an innovative collaboration with Northwell Health. The annual event took place on August 17 in Huntington Village.
Steering away from the spotlight, A Night Out With 1 North emerged as an embodiment of appreciation for the Huntington Hospital Cancer Center team. Fueled by compassion, these caregivers have tirelessly championed the cause of cancer patients within the community. The event, a heartfelt gesture, offered them an evening of camaraderie and respite, acknowledging their commitment to helping those in need. This culminated in the 1 North nursing staff being given the Daisy Foundation Award.
In addition to the celebration, the evening served as a way to support the Lauren Handler Research Fund. Born from a generous $25,000 endowment from the Handler Hope Foundation in 2022, this fund joins forces with Northwell Health to propel the research endeavors of Dr. Kerr, Chief of Neurosurgery, and Dr. Zinken, Chief of Radiation Medicine. Their pioneering work strives to validate the impact of regular monitoring and early detection on HER2-positive and NNN breast cancers, ushering in a new era of improved prognoses for patients contending with these aggressive subtypes.
The night raised $7,900 and is expected to deliver even better results next year.
“Our organization remains resolute in transforming the trajectory of cancer’s impact, alleviating the burdens that its victims bear,” said a Handler Hope Foundation spokesperson. “Through our focused lens on HER2 positive and NNN breast cancers, we address critical research gaps, underpinning our commitment to pioneering advancements in oncology.”
Affirming its dedication to the cause, the Handler Hope Foundation has pledged a contribution of $75,000 to the Northwell Health Lauren Handler Research Fund for the year 2023. An initial $25,000 was disbursed in April, marking the inception of this progressive endeavor. The triumph of A Night Out With 1 North signifies the second contribution of $25,000, with the final $25,000 installment scheduled for December.
This annual event stands as an emblem of the Handler Hope Foundation’s dedication and the outpouring of support from the community it serves. By propelling the boundaries of HER2-positive and NNN breast cancer research, the foundation continues to etch a profound mark on the landscape of cancer care.
Sponsors of the special night included Huntington Hospital Northwell Health, Surf Clean Energy, Nolan Funeral Home, ExoClean Powerwashing, N&S Electrical Supply and Lighting, and Badanes Law Firm.
