Fort Salonga home burglarized, distraught homeowner offers $10,000 reward for information
A home on Greentree Court in Fort Salonga was burglarized earlier this month; a safe bolted to the floor with guns inside was removed and taken from the home.

A retired Suffolk County police officer and Fort Salonga resident of over 20 years is offering up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest or the recovery of stolen items that hold sentimental value. His home on Greentree Court was burglarized sometime between July 8 and July 11, while he was out of town for his son’s lacrosse tournament.

The thieves, who entered the home through the side door, according to the homeowner, took various items, some with sentimental value. A safe bolted to the ground and containing a Glock 23 handgun and Sig Sauer P230 handgun, plus savings bonds and personal documents, was removed and taken from the home. The homeowner’s 5-ounce silver state coins and American Eagle silver dollars, which were passed down from his grandfather, were also taken, as were sports memorabilia, including collectible football cards.

“I’m distraught over this,” the homeowner told the Journal. “They got my whole life.”

The homeowner is hoping to share information on the burglary in order to get community members talking and asking questions. He lives in a quiet area with his teenage twins and dedicates his time to being with them.

The Suffolk County Police Department has requested the homeowner keep certain details of the case, including his own identity, confidential while the investigation is ongoing.

If a community member has any information about the burglary, he or she is encouraged to make an anonymous report by calling 1-800-220-TIPS or (631) 662-5544, or using the tips website at www.P3Tips.com. All calls and emails will be kept confidential. There is a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information.
