There’s still time to register for the Visiting Nurse Center’s 24th annual Run for the Health of It 5K on Saturday, May 11, a day of fun, fitness and philanthropy that benefits the group’s Hospice House, founded in 2004 as the first freestanding inpatient hospice in New York State.

The 5K is a USATF Certified 5K (3.1 miles) course through the residential roads of Northport, and includes 1.6K of the historic Cow Harbor course.

A special and shorter (less than one-quarter mile) kids fun run will take place before the main race. All participants get a small potted plant to take home, just in time for Mother’s Day. For the main race, there will be cash prizes for the top three overall male and female runners, top masters male and female, and the top nurse.

Hospice House is an 8-bed inpatient facility in East Northport designed specifically to meet the needs of terminally ill patients and their families as they face the end of life. Hospice House provides 24-hour care from registered nurses and hospice aides, as well as the companionship and support of trained hospice volunteers.

Every participant in the 5K helps support the work of the Hospice House – the 5K is one of its biggest fundraisers. Register for the 5K or fun run here.
