Finding strength: Dolph Lundgren to make local stops on national book tour
Actor, film icon and author Dolph Lundgren will sign copies of his new book at Gold’s Gym in East Northport on Monday, September 21.
On Monday, September 21, Gold’s Gym in East Northport will host actor and film icon Dolph Lundgren for a book signing event during a multi-city U.S. tour promoting the release of his new memoir, Fights Worth Fighting: Finding Strength in Struggle, in which he opens up about the physical and emotional cost of fame, navigating a cutthroat film industry and the intense pressures following his breakout role as Ivan Drago in Rocky IV.
The East Northport stop is one of two local appearances the 68-year-old Renaissance man will make. An international action star, martial arts champion, former chemical engineer and author, Lundgren skyrocketed to fame in the 1980s and has since built a remarkable career spanning over a hundred films, including producing, writing and directing multiple projects.
Fights Worth Fighting gives readers a glimpse into Lundgren’s complex life, spanning his childhood in Sweden, his academic days as a Fulbright scholar, his iconic rise as Ivan Drago and, more recently, his private, years-long battle with kidney cancer. Rather than sticking strictly to conventional bookstore readings, Lundgren’s tour features a unique mix of bodybuilding gyms, independent cinemas and performance stages.
Here are the details on where to catch Lundgren locally:
Monday, September 21, 5:30-6:30pm at Gold’s Gym East Northport
Lundgren will sign copies of his new book and interact with those in attendance. Members of Gold’s Gym East Northport receive free admission to the event; limited tickets for non-members can be purchased here. Copies of the book will be on-site for purchase as well.
Monday, September 21, 7:30pm at Cinema Arts Centre, Huntington
A special screening of the ’90s sci-fi action classic Universal Soldier. Lundgren will sit down for a conversation about his iconic career, as well as his new memoir. The evening will also include an audience Q&A and book signing reception with live music. Get tickets at cinemaartscentre.org.
