Community Playhouse of Northport introduces Anastasia the Musical to LI
The full cast of Community Playhouse of Northport’s musical Anastasia. Tickets to three more performances this weekend are now available.
Last weekend, Community Playhouse of Northport (CPN) opened its musical Anastasia, becoming one of the first community theaters on Long Island to bring this production to life. The playhouse is offering theatergoers three more performances over the weekend of November 21.
Anastasia takes audiences on a journey to the past, starting with the final years of the Romanov reign in Russia, where the Royals lived in privileged opulence, to the overthrowing of the government by the Bolsheviks, including the assassination of the Romanov Family. As the Russian townspeople adjust to this new world and new order, rumors begin to swirl that the youngest Romanov daughter may have escaped.
Two con men, Vlad and Dmitry, decide to find and train a young woman to portray the Princess Anastasia in order to receive the reward offered by the Dowager Empress for anyone who can find Anastasia and prove she is the true royal princess. They settle their sights on a young street sweeper, Anya. As they train her to become Anastasia, Anya begins to have memories that make her believe that she truly is the royal princess.
The rest of the story reveals itself when they bring her to Paris to meet the Dowager, in the height of the roaring ’20s, where spirits are high, and the surviving Russian families congregate.
Full of emotion, intrigue and romance, Anastasia the Musical had a brief run on Broadway from 2017 to 2019 and has graced the stages of many school productions across Long Island, as well as regional and community theaters in other areas. However, it is making its debut on the Long Island community theater circuit this year.
According to CPN Executive Director Suzie Lustig, the playhouse “is thrilled to be amongst the first to bring this beautiful production to life and we can’t wait to introduce audiences to this spectacular show. CPN has invested a lot of time and resources into bringing together an incredibly talented cast and creative production team to do this show justice. Audiences will be blown away by the vocals and music, only to be matched by the costumes, choreography and special lighting!”
Tickets to Anastasia The Musical can be purchased here. Shows will run at 158 Laurel Avenue (the Brosnan building) in Northport with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30pm and a Sunday matinee at 3pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. An opportunity for young children to receive the “royal treatment” prior to the Saturday evening and Sunday matinee performance is also available. Little princesses and princes will get spiffed up for the Grand Ball with a special hair styling and makeup session. This is a $10 add-on to the ticket price.
