The Northport/East Northport Community Drug & Alcohol Task Force is looking to extend its reach and ignite positive change throughout the community by engaging local adults and parents in an important topic: mental health and drug awareness.

The organization’s annual New Year Networking Bash on Thursday, February 29 is open to all and will include live music, appetizers, raffles and prizes. Project coordinator Linda Oristano is hoping participants from the community’s many sectors, from faith-based and government organizations, to parents and youth groups and those involved in healthcare, civic associations, law enforcement, schools, chambers of commerce, and more, will join in to share insights and company with one another.

The togetherness and connection Oristano hopes to create at events like the upcoming bash  are integral to a culture of understanding and support as recent trends in mental health have reached crisis levels and fentanyl continues to threaten younger populations.

“Whether you're directly involved in the Northport/East Northport Community Drug & Alcohol Task Force or not, if you're passionate about mental health and drug awareness, we need your presence,” Oristano said.

The February 29 event is an opportunity to connect with neighbors and socialize with the many people who are dedicated to providing the community and its children a brighter future, Oristano said. But involvement is pivotal, she added: “Together, as parents and community members, we can make a difference.”

The NENDATF New Year Networking Bash will take place from 6:30 to 8:30pm on Thursday, February 29 at American Legion Hall, 7 Woodside Avenue in Northport. The deadline to RSVP has been extended to February 22, confirm your attendance by emailing info@ndatf.org.
