Long Islander, ultra-marathoner and advocate for veterans, Eva Casale is back on the road for her 9th annual “Every Veteran Appreciated” week – an inspiring mission of heart, endurance and remembrance. From Sunday, April 27 to Saturday, May 3, Casale and Team E.V.A. will run seven marathons (each 26.2 miles) in seven days to honor our troops, veterans and fallen heroes, visiting more than 400 points of honor along the way. Her journey begins in Huntington and Northport Village.
The marathons span the length of Long Island with stops in Northport, LI National Cemetery, Eisenhower Park, Shelter Island, Sag Harbor, Calverton, Westhampton, Brookhaven, Patchogue, Medford, Oyster Bay, Bayville and many others. The final stretch ends in Glen Cove, Casale’s hometown, where a special closing ceremony will be held at Glen Cove City Hall.
An opening ceremony will take place at Huntington Town Hall on Sunday, April 27 at 10am. Casale will begin running at 11am. At 5pm, she will pick up runners at the American Legion in Northport Village (7 Woodside Avenue) for a 10K. The run will end at the Northport Village dock.
By the end of this year’s journey, Team E.V.A. will have logged over 1,656 miles in total over nine years, raising crucial funds and awareness for veteran programs.
“This journey allows me to turn my love for running into something bigger than myself,” said Casale. “It’s not about the miles – it’s about the mission. We run to say thank you, to remember the fallen, and to remind every veteran that their service matters.”
Each day of the weeklong mission is dedicated to local service members and their communities, with solemn visits to cemeteries, memorials, VFWs (Veterans of Foreign Wars), homes of veterans and hometown landmarks. Casale and her team will lay over 400 flowers, cones, wreaths and flags to honor the sacrifices made by those who served.
Huntington Town Supervisor Ed Smyth praised the event, stating, “Eva’s commitment is unmatched. Her journey brings together communities, reminds us of our shared values and honors those who gave everything.”
