Outdoor dining fee to be raised from $50 to $250 annually, public hearing April 4

At the Northport Village Board of Trustees meeting tomorrow, April 4, there will be a public hearing on a local law amendment related to outdoor dining, raising the permit fee from $50 to $250 per year.

Under the current Northport Village code, restaurants and deli-style businesses in the downtown, marine and highway districts must apply for outdoor dining permits annually on or before April 1. Applicants must also submit a sworn statement that provides information related to the type of service that will be provided, and the number of tables and seats needed.

Additionally, outdoor seating applicants must provide for a pedestrian right-of-way on the sidewalk, with at least 36 inches in clearance between where dining furniture is placed and the sidewalk’s curb. Tables, chairs, menu signs and other objects must be within these parameters, leaving enough space for pedestrians to pass.

The public hearing on the local law change for outdoor dining is scheduled for 6pm at Northport Village Hall.
