The “My Healthy Northport” program is back in full swing, offering a range of fitness classes that take place in Northport Village Park and at Scudder Beach. This Summer Wellness Series is part of a larger initiative created by former Village Trustee Mercy Smith to support the well-being of the community.

Mercy explained that she wanted to complement the other fantastic community events that take place in the Village throughout the year, including the summer concert series, Cow Harbor Day and the annual tree lighting. “I prioritized the development of a formal wellness program... that would effectively create programming with the purpose of optimizing the potential of residents, families, employees, local businesses and the surrounding community,” Mercy said.

The purpose of this holistic program is to touch on all aspects of well-being, including emotional, physical, social and intellectual health.

Since the program’s inception in 2018, the Village has offered over 30 individual low-cost or no-cost programs, serving over 500 residents. Offerings ranged from kid and adult yoga to teen meditation in partnership with YDA (Youth Directions & Alternatives), academic and emotional success workshops for students and families, and a class on the benefits of essential oils.

Prior to moving on to her new role as the Executive Director of Suffolk County Campaign Finance Board, Mercy solidified the summer series, getting Village Board approval to execute agreements with all program instructors, as well as Gold’s Gym in East Northport and Sarah Pitfick, who is serving as the summer intern for this program. Revolution Fitness in East Northport was also added to the program schedule by Village Trustee Dave Weber.

“I am most grateful for the commitment and dedication of Amy Grandy, the Village Clerk, who graciously agreed to assume the leadership and oversight of a program that is so near and dear to my heart,” Mercy said. Trustee Weber, who serves as the Commissioner of Parks, will work in partnership with Amy to oversee all outdoor public classes.
