Looking for a new summer adventure? Sail on Long Island's largest tall ship from Port Jefferson

Get out of town: The Liberty Clipper will offer public daytime and sunset sails out of Port Jefferson Harbor Thursdays through Sundays from August through October.

Long Island’s largest tall ship will return to Port Jefferson Harbor in August, offering a one-of-a-kind sailing experience just a short drive from Northport.

The Liberty Clipper, a 125-foot traditionally rigged sailing vessel built in 1983, will offer public daytime and sunset sails Thursdays through Sundays from August through October.

During the two-hour sail, passengers can help raise the sails, take a turn at the helm and learn how a traditionally rigged tall ship operates. No sailing experience is necessary.

Daytime sails depart at noon and 3pm, while sunset sails leave in the evening (the times vary by season). Adult tickets start at $55, with children’s tickets priced at $35. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and snacks, and beverages are available for purchase onboard.

The Liberty Clipper was built in 1983 as a replica of the speedy Baltimore Clipper schooners that once sailed the East Coast during the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, it offers a different kind of adventure – a chance to experience Port Jefferson Harbor from the deck of a traditional sailing vessel.
