A longstanding tradition is back this weekend, with hayrides, face painting, a pumpkin patch, petting zoo and costume contest bringing a small-town fall celebration right here to Northport Village Park.
Sponsored by the Northport Chamber of Commerce, the Halloween Hayride was conceived over two decades ago when, following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Northport Village podiatrist Dr. Ronald Iannacone and his wife Janice introduced what they hoped would be an uplifting family experience during a difficult time.
Celebrated the Sunday before Halloween to get kids involved, the hayride has become a larger community effort, with residents and local businesses pitching in with the day's activities and entertainment. Over the years, the event has become like a little fall festival and this weekend’s weather looks perfect for a hayride in the park.
The 23rd Annual Halloween Hayride is scheduled for Sunday, October 20, from noon to 4pm. Admission is $5 and includes a hayride, face painting, and one pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.
