A damp but not dreary Cow Harbor 10K showcases spirit and love of the run

Approximately 3,560 participants braved a threatening forecast of heavy rain and wind to run in the Great Cow Harbor 10K yesterday. Fortunately, the weather held out, with cool temps and a light drizzle for much of the race.

Thirty-year-old Clayton Young from Springfield, Utah was the first to cross the finish line, completing the course in 28 minutes and 49 seconds. Weini Kelati, a 27-year-old from Johnson City, Tennessee was the first female in, with a time of 31:57.00.

James Dickinson of East Northport was the first Northport-East Northport resident to the finish, claiming 23rd place in the race with a time of 31:14.00. Fellow East Northporter Marissa Cassaro finished with a time of 38:23.00.

Nora Nolan of Nolan Funeral Home got in the spirit, handing out free cowbells while in full costume to interested passersby.

Northporter Anderson Tucker came in second in the male 12-and-under category with a time of 49:18.00, while Gianna Costello of Northport was the first female to finish in the same category, capturing a time of 57:50.00. East Northport resident Carl Sukowski was one of the oldest participants in the 10K run; the 81-year-old completed the race with a time of 1:48.24.

Twenty-three para-athletes joined the 10K, with many local runners representing Long Island, including Ethan Peters of Northport.

All Cow Harbor Day celebrations scheduled for today, Sunday, September 24, were canceled due to the weather. There is no rain date.
