Local food options keep growing, a Laurel Road building gets a facelift, and law offices move into a Main Street storefront. Here’s a rundown of the latest business updates in our area.

Duke’s House of Bowls
Dukes House of Bowls is now open for business. The eatery, at 42 Woodbine Avenue in Northport Village (the former Auntie Moe’s location), serves “refined comfort bowls inspired by various cultural cuisines,” and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11am-8pm. Menu items include an ahi tuna poke bowl, crispy oat breaded chicken bowl, and a crispy tofu ramen bowl; gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan options are available, as well as the opportunity to create your own bowl. “We look forward to serving the local community and beyond,” said Duke’s owner Gene DeFreitas.

La Porta Pizza
Inspection pending, the highly anticipated La Porta Pizza on Main Street in Northport Village should be opening soon, said owner Rob Simmons. The menu is Neapolitan pizza, with some traditional Italian pasta dishes, salads, appetizers and desserts, Simmons told the Journal in March. Renovations to the location include an expansion into the neighboring space, a wood fire brick oven imported from Italy, chandeliers, and a Main Street-facing window system that opens like an accordion for that dining al fresco feel. While he can’t yet give a certain opening date, Simmons is hoping to be serving pizza (regular and personal pies) in June – though it may get pushed to July. “Once all approved, we’ll be good to go,” he told the Journal.

Revolution Fitness/170 Laurel Road
170 Laurel Road in East Northport, currently home to Revolution Fitness, is getting a facelift. The work, which has resulted in scaffolding across the front of the two-story building, was initiated by its landlord, said Revolution owner Vincent DeRiso, and will benefit the entire structure. Revolution has occupied parts of the building since 2012, when it operated as Northport MMA and Fitness. A couple of years later, a rebrand included the switch to its current name and an expansion to the south side of the building. The gym has since expanded two more times, to the building’s basement and the north side, where Brazilian jiu jitsu and Muay Thai to HIIT as well as Revolution’s signature Rev’d Up classes take place. Once work is complete, the second floor will be used for offices for DreamSeat, a company specializing in commercial-grade furnishings and fixed spectator seating currently headquartered in Hauppauge.

“We are getting a huge facelift which is going to make this block look a lot better than previously,” DeRiso. “We’ve been in business since 2012 in the same old building. It’s finally getting a big upgrade.” Revolution has remained open since construction began with tentative plans to have a re-grand opening in September, he said.

The building currently housing Revolution Fitness is getting a facelift; a company specializing in stadium seating will be taking over the second floor.

Tully Law Group takes over P&C location
Elder care and estate planning specialists Tully Law Group will soon be moving into 154 Main Street in Northport, the former location of Penny & Cooper. Tully Law has plans to take over the space on June 1, with an official grand opening party scheduled for later in the month. Northport Village will be the third office space for the law group, which currently has offices in Melville and Riverhead.

In April, Tully Law Group acquired Soundview Law Group, P.C. of Northport, a client-centered law firm focused on modernizing the estate planning experience for young families with minor children, in addition to planning for high net-worth individuals and families. Clients of the newly merged entity can expect a comprehensive approach to legal services, addressing not only the unique challenges of aging and elder care, but also the critical aspects of estate planning for younger families.

Penny & Cooper fans can still shop the Northport-made line of bath, body and home products online at www.pennyandcooper.com.

Now that Penny & Cooper has moved online, Tully Law Group is taking over the Main Street storefront.

SYMI: Greek Redefined
A new Greek restaurant on 25A and Waterside Road in Northport has been quietly taking walk-ins since Tuesday, May 21, with reservations now available on OpenTable. SYMI, specializing in the essence of Greek cuisine, serves a variety of authentic dishes, including grilled octopus, lamb, and lavraki (a Greek branzino). While owner and Northport resident Irena Angeliades, also a partner in the well-known KYMA restaurants in Roslyn and Manhattan, admits to operating this past week a little under the radar, she told the Journal “people have just been walking in and the response has been amazing!” For more information, check out the SYMI website.
