The Restaurant at The Northport Hotel, currently in a soft opening phase, announced its culinary team this past Thursday, with an expected grand opening date of October 30.

Executive chef Michael Ross, a Huntington resident with over 35 years of professional cooking experience, will be joined in the kitchen by chefs David Glatzerman and Juan Jiminez.

According to a press release introducing the chefs, Ross is delighted to bring the joy of living, celebrating, and eating well to the community. He prides himself on keeping the menu fresh and inspiring, with well-crafted dishes and a strict attention to detail.

Ross earned a name for himself as the main culinary force for a number of Long Island restaurants, such as Pearl in Island Park, Jewel in Melville, Jedediah’s at The Jedediah Hawkins Inn in Jamesport, and Fiddleheads American Fish House and Grill in Oyster Bay.

After attending Southampton College as a marine biology major, Ross decided to change course and attend The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. He did his apprenticeship at some of New York City’s groundbreaking nouvelle outposts.

Chef David Glatzerman is Ross’ longtime collaborator and friend; the two Chefs share a unique culinary kinship. The facilitator behind the cuisine at The Northport Hotel, Glatzerman has also been the lead in his own kitchens, including Jack Halyards in Oyster Bay and a stint at The LakeHouse in Bay Shore. “David’s presence in the kitchen is a game-changer,” Ross said.

Chef Juan Jimenez comes to The Northport Hotel kitchen after being the driving force behind the cuisine at The Mill Pond House in Centerport. With 18 years spent at The Mill Pond House, Jiminez has a great understanding of the pulse of the community. “Juan is a highly talented and energetic chef, and his high standards and bold flavors bring a vibrant and complimentary style to the kitchen,” reads the press release. “The Northport Hotel counts itself as lucky and excited to have Juan and David as key members of the kitchen hierarchy.”

During the soft opening phase, the restaurant will offer a variety of culinary options, and the bar a range of signature cocktails and extensive wine list. Soft opening hours are Sunday through Thursday from 4:30-9pm and Friday and Saturday from 4:30-10pm. During this time, bar and table service is walk-in only on a first-come, first-served basis.

The restaurant will be adding a light bites menu on Friday and Saturday from 9-11pm starting Friday, November 3, and will announce additional hours, including extended hours, lunch, brunch, and holiday availability in the coming weeks. The restaurant reservation system will go live on the hotel’s website this Monday, October 23, for the grand opening week and beyond. A soft opening menu can be found here.
