Celebrate a “Year of Firsts” by donating to the Northport Historical Society this Giving Tuesday

This Giving Tuesday, the Northport Historical Society is asking for community support to help sustain their many contributions to Northport and East Northport. The society collects, displays and educates the public on historical artifacts, memorabilia and photographs in the only museum dedicated to our local history.

Northport Historical Society has described 2023 as a “year of firsts,” as leaders have expanded the society’s community engagement through new programs and collaborations. They strengthened their museum education outreach with children’s field trips and scout programs, held their first LGBTQ+ exhibit, which invited community members to share their own personal stories of Pride, and introduced the Society Lecture Series, featuring author discussions on topics including Juneteenth, the Culper Spy Ring and Indigenous people. The society has also hosted many community gatherings, including paint nights, a chocolate and wine pairing for Valentine’s Day, and a Halloween party featuring local photographer John Lazzaro.

Additionally, the society has received two Awards of Excellence by the Greater Hudson Heritage Network for their 2021-22 Immigrants of Northport exhibit.

“On behalf of the board of trustees and society staff, thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you in the museum,” the historical society wrote in a statement to the Journal.
