Fifty volunteers dedicated their Saturday morning to remove garbage and debris from Bird Island.
This past Saturday I had the pleasure to host a Clean the Bay Day along with the Northport Native Garden Initiative organization and I am proud to say our community shines! With the organizational help of Sara Abbass, Nicole Tamaro and Matt Gorman from NNGI, over 50 community volunteers gathered at Scudder Beach, gloves in hand to help collect garbage along the waterfront and Bird Island.
To those volunteers, please accept this as my official thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to help the community. In total, over 30 bags of garbage, large pieces of driftwood, Styrofoam and plastic were collected and thrown out. A big shout out to the many children who came to help and learn how to be stewards of their community and for that, community service hours were earned, well done.
Special thank you to Bruce Adams, our official historian, photographer, and helper! It’s times like this when we gather for the betterment of our community and environment that I am proud to call Northport Village home! I am already looking forward to the next Clean the Bay Day!
