John P. Cardone Nature Art Show

Long Island author, photographer, lecturer, and photography instructor John P. Cardone is showing (and selling) an array of wildlife and waterscape photographs, most taken while kayaking and hiking the island. The show, within the Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty office in Northport, through October 5.

Susan Peragallo, gallery coordinator and curator for the Art League of Long Island, said of John’s work: “One can almost hear the wind rustling in the trees and the crickets creating their musical rhythms as you walk around the room.” Photographs in John’s solo exhibition range from an elusive snowy owl, to a magnificent American bald eagle, awe-inspiring hummingbirds, egrets and even moose.

The show is free and open to the public.

National Recovery Month at the Library

National Recovery Month is held annually in September; our local l libraries are joining the community initiative to “turn purple” to raise awareness about addiction treatment and recovery as well as support those in recovery. The following two programs are co-sponsored by Northport-East Northport Community Drug and Alcohol Task Force:
Medicine Collection at the Library

Thursday, September 15, 3:30-6:30pm
The Northport Police Department and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office will collect unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications. Proper disposal of these items is essential for risk reduction and environmental protection. No questions asked and no personal information is required. Only medications in pill form will be accepted and must be placed in a plastic bag before arrival.
Opioid Overdose Prevention Training
Northport Public Library
Tuesday, September 20, 7pm
CN Guidance & Counseling Services will conduct training for all interested adults (16 years and older) on how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and administer Naloxone (Narcan). Register here.

Mystic Pizza, A New Musical

Based on the classic 1988 movie starring Julia Roberts, Mystic Pizza charts the lives and loves of three unforgettable waitresses in the harbor town of Mystic, Connecticut. Featuring some of the best pop songs of the ’80s and ’90s such as “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “Addicted To Love,” “Small Town,” “Hold On,” and “Take My Breath Away,” Mystic Pizza has all the ingredients for a romantic comedy – with the works. St. Paraskevi Greek Fest 2022

Come for the food, stay for the people (and the music, games, and rides)! St. Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Church’s annual tradition draws in crowds for its authentic Greek grill, seafood, pastries, beer, and wine, with a small fair atmosphere for the kids. Hours are Friday from 4-11pm, Saturday from 11am-11pm and Sunday from 12-8pm. A flea market and vendors make sure there’s something for everyone. A shuttle will be available from TJ Leahy School on Pulaski Road.

The Cow Harbor Race and Cow Harbor Day Parade
Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18
The 2022 Great Cow Harbor 10K Run, scheduled for Saturday, September 17 has reached its cap of 5,000 registrants. One of the most prestigious foot races in the country, the Great Cow Harbor 10K Run (recently announced as the USATF 10K National Championship) has been described by New England Runner as a "big race atmosphere in a small town on the Island; it's a winner! Who says those "rolling" courses can't be fun?" In addition to the live run, there will also be a virtual race and the 2K Fun Run. For more info, visit

A concert in Village Park and a lighted boat display at the dock are scheduled to start at 8pm that evening.

Cow Harbor Day follows on Sunday, September 18 with the festive, familiar and oh-so-popular parade beginning promptly at noon. Park activities and sidewalk sales will take place throughout the day. For more info on all the day has to offer, visit

pARTy til the Cows Come Home

pARTy til the Cows Come Home is a juried exhibition celebrating and complementing the Great Cow Harbor Day festivities this weekend in downtown Northport. Works featuring cows, and other farm life, as well as those honoring the run and festival are featured.

Northport Farmers’ Market
The farmers’ market will NOT take place this week due to the Cow Harbor 10K Run but will return next Saturday, September 24 in Cow Harbor Park.

Raúl Guerra, “Tales”

Spain-based artist Raúl Guerra is back for his third solo exhibition at Haven Gallery. “Tales” is a collection of seven works that depict well-known characters from folklore and fairytales in the artist’s quintessential style. Mermaids, goblins and recognizable characters such as Pinocchio (Italy), Medusa (Ancient Greece), the Queen of Hearts (England) and Kaguya-Hime (Japan), unite stories and dramatic personae from their worldly origins. Despite their supernatural details and cultural genesis, each narrative resonates and universally teaches children and adults alike, making their visages and accounts unforgettable. Iconic Northport

“Iconic Northport,” an exhibit now open at the Northport Historical Society features the history behind Northport's most iconic landmarks, businesses and traditions, including the LILCO stacks, the trolley tracks, Jones Drug Store and Cow Harbor Day. The museum’s first ever interactive exhibit, each icon has its own QR code that offers users a short video containing extra photos and interesting facts. There is also a selfie station, where visitors can become a customer of Jones Drug Store's old soda fountain.
