Summer is here, which means the return of the Northport Community Band and free, live performances each Thursday evening in Northport Village Park! Beginning June 30 at 8:30pm and continuing every Thursday through July, the Robert W. Krueger Bandstand will once again resonate with the marches, show tunes, light classics, solo features and novelties your musical friends and neighbors have performed since 1959. A pre-concert feature as the audience gathers is scheduled for 7:30pm each week.

This summer’s schedule is as follows:

  • June 30: “Music Made in America” (pre-concert The Island Winds - chamber ensemble) with guest conductor Christine Zacher and the Armed Forces Salute

  • July 7: “Holiday Make-up Celebration” (pre-concert NCJO Big Band) with guest conductor Dr. Mark Tse and music from two years of holidays missed due to the pandemic

  • July 14: “Scenes From Childhood” (pre-concert The Northport Horn Club and Friends) with guest conductor Brian Reynolds and a surprise soloist

  • July 21: “Harbor Jam” (pre-concert NCJO Big Band) with guest conductor Vickie Henson and vocalist Allen Santoriello

  • July 28: “Family Finale” (pre-concert Northport Schools’ SMARTSummer student performance) with guest conductors Aaron Prindle and Andy Isca, and our traditional 1812 overture with cannons

If the weather threatens, concerts will be moved to the band’s contingency rain site in Northport High School. Announcements will be made beginning at 3pm on the band’s website and Facebook page, where concerts are also live-streamed and archived. Fans of the band can sign up for instant updates by sending an email to e82cbb@mail.remind.com or texting @e82cbb to 81010.

Rain or shine, there’s great live music ahead, so bring your folding chairs, beach blankets and a picnic dinner and celebrate the Northport Community Band’s 64th musical summer with neighbors and friends.

Don’t forget to “bring a can to the concert!” Long Island Cares will once again accept nonperishable food donations every week, and each item is worth a raffle ticket for valuable prizes, including guest conducting "The Stars and Stripes Forever” at our final concert!
