MLK weekend, opera on Main Street and a lunar new year celebration

Opera Night Long Island (ONLI), a nonprofit organization providing the only live opera series performed by accomplished singers on Long Island, continues its monthly program at St.Paul’s. Xīn nián kuài lè! Celebrate the Year of the Rabbit with Vanderbilt Museum educators: visit the wildlife dioramas, learn Chinese calligraphy, and make a decoration that will bring good luck all year. Recommended for grades 2 through 4. $20 admission, $18 for members. Register here.

MLK Weekend at the Suffolk YJCC

Join the SYJCC for a weekend of free programs honoring the legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A weekend kickoff breakfast with faith and community leaders, choir and music is scheduled for Friday, January 13 at 10am. Building Bridges, a virtual event with panelists Tracey Edwards (LI Regional Director of the NAACP) and Scott Richman (ADL NY/NJ Regional Director) will take place at 5pm on Sunday, January 15. On Monday January 16, at 4pm, keynote speaker Frank Meeink, a former skinhead and founder of director of Harmony through Hockey, will take part in a discussion, From Hate to Harmony, at the SYJCC building in Commack.
