Clean the Bay Day

Steers Beach and Scudder Park
Saturday, June 11, 8am-10am

Join the Northport Native Garden Initiative (NNGI) in partnership with Northport Village and Trustee Dave Weber for the second annual Clean the Bay Day. This year, there are two locations: Steers Beach and Scudder Park, where there will be shifts to Bird Island via boat ride. Every volunteer should meet at Scudder Beach where Tim’s Shipwreck is providing a hot breakfast and coffee; volunteers will then be split up into groups to tackle certain locations.

In addition to cleaning the area, native goldenrod will be planted at Steers Beach. Sara Abbass, a founder of NNGI explained, “We want to repeat what’s already thriving at this location. Goldenrod is one of the power plants of the season that bloom later and are used by monarch butterflies as fuel to migrate for the winter.”

Last year, about 50 people participated in Clean the Bay Day and Sara said she’s expecting even more volunteers this year, especially students who are interested in supporting a healthy environment.

Wear comfortable clothing that can get a little messy, and rubber boots or secure footwear.

Bags and gloves will be provided.

The second annual Clean the Bay Day will take place next Saturday, June 11. Volunteers will meet at Scudder Beach at 8am.
